Sviluppo e patologia cerebrale

Studiamo lo sviluppo del sistema nervoso centrale dall'embrione all’anziano, e alcuni meccanismi neurobiologici e percorsi molecolari comuni che guidano lo sviluppo normale ma che possono portare alla neurodegenerazione. In particolare, stiamo studiando corteccia cerebrale, retina e midollo spinale, e l'organizzazione delle vie visive, motorie e somatosensitive.

Siamo interessati alle vie molecolari che portano alla genesi e alla morte delle cellule neuronali, sia durante lo sviluppo, sia in modelli sperimentali di ischemia cerebrale transitoria o permanente (infarto cerebrale), di glaucoma acuto e cronico, nell'epilessia, nelle malattie del motoneurone e nel morbo di Alzheimer. Infine, valutiamo il ruolo immunomodulatorio, neuroprotettivo e stimolante la crescita assonale delle cellule staminali.

Il nostro gruppo di ricerca collabora con aziende biotecnologiche allo scopo di sviluppare strategie innovative per curare le malattie del sistema nervoso.
